Esha Deol's Nostalgic Moment: Wearing Salwar-Kurta on Koffee with Karan for Dad Dharmendra

Esha Deol, who recently made her acting comeback with Ajay Devgn’s streaming series Rudra: The Edge of Darkness (2022), is embracing a new phase in her career with a desire to take on more diverse roles. Following her recent divorce from Bharat Takhtani after 11 years of marriage, Esha is reflecting on her past and looking forward to new opportunities.

In a recent interview, Esha reminisced about her appearance on the popular celebrity chat show Koffee with Karan almost two decades ago. She was reminded of her comments about failure and self-reflection made during that time. Reacting to this, Esha expressed surprise and amusement. “I said this back then? I don’t know why I spoke and gave so much philosophy then. I am getting myself in trouble with what I said then. I don’t think it resonates to what I am today,” she told India Today.

While Esha may not recall the exact words she spoke during that interview, she vividly remembers her choice of attire. Esha shared that she chose to wear a salwar-kameez instead of a more glamorous outfit because she knew her father, the veteran star Dharmendra, would likely be watching. She wanted to ensure she was “well dressed” for his sake. She recounted, “I have to go back and watch that interview because I don’t really remember what I said. I remember it being a fun, spontaneous interview and the main thing I remember is also that I wore a salwar-kurta and Karan (Johar) was like (shows amused expression) and I was like, ‘Maybe dad watches this, I better be well dressed’. So I made Rocky (celebrity fashion designer Rocky S) make a salwar-kurta for me.”

In an earlier , Esha shared insights into her father’s protective nature. Despite his sons Bobby and Sunny Deol being established stars, Dharmendra was initially against Esha entering the film industry. Esha explained, “I wouldn’t say that they have it tough. Yes, there is a different level of challenge and boys too have their own set. As far as my father is concerned, he is possessive and orthodox, and for him, girls should be kept away from the world in a protected way. That was what he must have felt, also knowing how our industry functions. All said and done, we managed and how!”

Esha’s reflections highlight the influence of her father’s protective nature on her career choices and her evolving perspective as she continues to make her mark in the entertainment industry. Her story resonates with many who navigate familial expectations while pursuing their passions.
